The April 17, 2006 issue of TIME magazine had an article talking about the largest outbreak of mumps in 20 years.
This finding had epidemiologists scratching their heads since Mumps is relatively rare in North America. A total of 365 known and suspected cases of mumps were found in Iowa in April and the disease seems to be spreading to nearby states. The symptoms of mumps is characterized by inflamed salivary glands and a swollen throat. This discomfort will usually last about 5 days and is relatively harmless.
The medical community tells us that the widespread availability of a childhood vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (the MMR shot) should prevent outbreaks of these diseases. The surprise is that most of the people who came down with mumps seem to have been fully vaccinated. This raises the question of why these shots are given if they are ineffective? Questions also arise as to the harmful chemicals (mercury, formaldehyde and other preservatives) that are present in each vaccination. Studies have shown that injecting these vaccines into our bloodstream has been linked to different diseases such as Autism, Alzheimer’s, allergies and cancers.
More studies today are showing that relying on vaccines to prevent disease does not seem to be working. In fact, many of these studies seem to indicate the contrary (more on this subject when we have our summer workshops).
