Do as the Japanese Do: The Miracle Benefits of Chlorella

Tag: Supplements
Apr 18th, 2006

According to world health statistics, people living in Japan have significantly more years of healthy life vs. other developed countries (FYI:  US ranks 37 of 38 in healthy longevity of developed countries).

One of the proposed reasons behind the success of Japan’s people comes from the consumption of a popular algae called Chlorella.  It is the most common supplement taken in Japan and is commonly added to such things as their: teas, noodles, soups, yogurt, juice and other foods.  Let’s see why this algae has gained such an unprecedented reputation.

In comparison to other supplements of its kind (spirulina, green blue algae, wheat grass or even barley grass) Chlorella is considered the most researched algae in the world. Studies have found that its tough cell wall enables it to eliminate toxins, such as pesticides and heavy metals from the body.  It also has properties that will help boost the immune system and prevent cancer due to its abundant levels of beta-carotene.  The protein content of the algae makes it a perfect fit for vegetarians who often lack protein rich foods.  Lastly, interesting experiments have indicated that it is extremely rich in nucleic acids, RNA and DNA.  Laboratory mice that were fed chlorella had a life span increase over 30% compared to mice under controlled conditions.
