Particularly during this time of year, people feel a deep need to connect with a higher power. Whether it is God, Buddha, or the universe, at IHD we agree that any form of spiritual growth is important. In fact, according to a study conducted by the National Institute of health, over 40% of US adults seek comfort in prayer to combat health issues like back pain, colds, anxiety and depression.
Oftentimes we ask for guidance from Spirit, yet we seem to shut ourselves off when Spirit is speaking to us through people we do not like or situations we are uncomfortable with. Here are some tips we have picked up recently to help you keep your connection with Spirit. You can think of God in any form you wish to understand the bigger lesson. This can serve you regardless of the spiritual path you choose so please enjoy.
1) Have expectation that Spirit speaks to us: Having faith is important, but having an expectation that Spirit responds is even more critical.
2) Practice talking to Spirit and listening: When we actually PRACTICE asking guidance to life’s bigger questions, it takes an openness to truly listen for answers.
3) Let your motivation be towards helping people: Spirit will often speak to us in the form of contribution to other people’s lives.
4) Risk looking foolish: Sometimes we have to suspend our belief in doubt in order to grow our belief in faith.
5) Pay attention: Goosebumps on your skin may actually be considered God-bumps from Spirit speaking to us.
6) Check it out and follow where it leads: Knowledge is power, but applied knowledge makes all the difference.
