There is a new school of thought that suggests that children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are related to children with Autism. There is a continuum of disorders from the mild side being ADHD to the opposite end showing up as Autism. The diagnosis for ADHD, learning disabilities and Autism have increased significantly in years passed and the most current statistics show that 1 in 166 children will be diagnosed with Autism. The worst part is that the numbers are still rising.
Because of this dramatic rise, schools report an increase in the need for special education for children with learning disabilities. Parents are now dealing with more kids that have ADHD than ever before. As mentioned in a recent health tip, there are now 5 million children in the US that are prescribed Ritalin to help parents and teachers cope with these children.
The cause of these epidemics are multi-factorial. Beginning as early as the birth process: intra-uterine constraint, birth trauma, vaccinations and antibiotics have all been shown to contribute to overloading the child’s stress threshold. Depending on how healthy the immune system is, a child may manifest mild disorders such as ADHD or the more severe forms such as Autism if their immune foundation is not sufficient or if their toxic load is too great. Other lifestyle factors from children’s dietary choices to how children handle stress also compound in adding to the ADHD to Autism spectrum.
Along with this lifestyle based research, clinical results are now indicating that children from ADHD to Autism can benefit from Neurosensory Integration. This cutting-edge field is helping to improve children’s: perception, comprehension, and ability to learn. Significant improvements have also been noted in: processing time, sleep patterns,, attention, speech, memory, and social skills with children undergoing Neurosensory Integration programs.
