Known for its strong and minty aroma, Peppermint has been highly regarded for it’s ability to help sooth digestion and restore digestive efficiency. Instead of taking “the pink stuff” for everyday heartburn, at IHD we will often suggest taking a cup of hot water and adding a few drops of peppermint (essential) oil to support the digestion of heavy meals.
In addition, peppermint has gained a reputation throughout history for it’s ability to help respiratory conditions like pneumonia and sooth an aching tooth. People with a headache might benefit from rubbing a few drops of this oil on their temples and affecting reflexology points on the feet. Jean Valnet, M.D. used peppermint as an alternative to treat liver and respiratory diseases while Dr. William Denber of the University of Cinicinnati found that inhaling peppermint oil actually increased a person’s mental accuracy by 28%. For those of you that are studying for examinations, consider applying applying peppermint oil to the back of the neck and inhaling a few drops of this oil to keep your mind sharp before a big test.
Peppermint oil has also been particularly useful to help ease muscles and bring about relief of emotional stress. A therapeutic form of massage (called the Raindrop Technique) incorporates peppermint along with a series of other essential oils to help with conditions like scoliosis, eliminating bacterial infections and emotional release.
As always, be careful with the sources in obtaining peppermint oil because much of the peppermint oil sold today has been chemically altered and adulterated in order to bring higher profits for the companies making them. Remember that the source of oils that you use will play a critical factor in bringing out the benefits. Under no circumstances are these recommendations to be used as a substitution for any personalized medical advice. It is your soul responsibility to determine if the recommendations described are appropriate and these oils should not be interpreted that they will bring out a specific cure.
