When we really get down to the core of life, most of us long for essentially one thing; a deeper purpose to why we are here. While some of us find purpose in our relationships with our spouse, friends or loved ones, others may find their purpose through their work and financial strive for success. However, regardless of which area of life we tend to gravitate towards, we should realize that neither of these roles (our relationships, our careers and financial success, etc.) really gives us the certainty and security behind our life’s purpose. There are many people who are financially successful, but are not satisfied with what they have and there are also others who have great relationships, but never feel like they have enough. When it comes down to it, try honestly answering yourself this one fundamental question……… Are you truly happy with yourself and your life?
According to Dr. Erhard Vogel of the Natarja Yoga and Meditation Center, all of us determine our happiness by a certain set of values. Many times, these values are merely constructed out of our belief in what we think society deems as socially acceptable. When we do this we may feel good initially, but eventually this way of being leads us down the road of hopelessness, fear and despair. This is the complete opposite of where we are intending to go. Also, as a result of this, we tend to develop habitual ways of thinking and being that causes undue stress to our health, body and minds. In order for us to create lasting and permanent change in ourlives we need to start by realizing that we have the power to truly choose what would make us happy regardless of societal view. We can define our happiness by our own set of values and, once we honestly do that, the universe will open up opportunities for us to fully experience this way of being. Meditation provides a powerful way of helping us recognize the bigger part of who we really are. Once we combine meditation with our intentions, we direct our focus and full knowledge to the real us vs. giving into the habitual attraction of the socially constructed us. Our wellness center has been working closely with Dr. Vogel’s Meditation and Yoga Center in La Jolla. They provide great classes that dive into different aspects of meditation and we would highly recommend that you explore their various programs.
