Forming a Philosophy on Health and Wellness

Forming a Philosophy on Health and WellnessThis week we thought it might be helpful to give you some tips on building a foundation of health and how to start forming your own philosophy on health and wellness. One of the places we begin is by asking ourselves what makes sense to us. While we use a number of natural and holistic procedures in our office, we maintain that when the patient chooses to help themselves, it’s their body that really determines the healing process…not the procedures.

We know that there are many ways that people address their health concerns. Some may opt for drugs to lessen their symptoms while others depend on vitamins, homeopathic remedies and nutrition. Some feel the need for physical exertion and accelerate their exercise or workout routines and we’ve even known people who turn to prayer to get their physical lives back on track. More and more people are turning to holistic health treatments such as Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Massage, and some of the lesser known techniques such as Healing Touch as part of their wellness routine.

In reality, our bodies were well equipped at birth to handle almost any situation that requires healing. Take a look at what happens when we cut our finger. Although we might use an antibiotic such as Neosporin and a band-aid to prevent bacterial infection, it’s actually our bodies using processes many of which science is not even aware of, that actually heal the wound. Some are under the misconception thatantibioticsand even band-aids are what heal wounds however we know that it is the body doing the work.

Because some are not aware of the body’s power, they make the mistake of thinking that medicines are doing the healing which lends itself to the philosophy that the body requires something from the outside in order to impact healing within. This type of thinking leads to reliance on drugs and even supplements to determine the healing process.

The fact of the matter is that the human body was made to know what is needed to keep it running. If we take in nutrients, it is the body and only the body that determines what to do with those nutrients. We may provide our bodies with nutrition to help it heal and stay healthy, it is inevitably the body itself that determines what to do with the nutrition we give it.

You may be thinking, if the body is so intelligent, why is my body having such a hard time healing itself? Or if the body is self healing, why do I still have cancer, diabetes, or [insert your ailment]? If my body is so intelligent, why would I need something like nutrition or even chiropractic to help me?

These are great questions and they are at the core of forming your own way of thinking. To find our answers to these questions tune in next week!
